Alanya is a coastal city in Antalya Province on Türkiye's Mediterranean shore, positioned on a rocky peninsula between sandy beaches and the Taurus Mountains. The city is known for its historic castle, harbor, caves, and long beaches, with the old fortress occupying much of the peninsula above the modern urban area. Alanya's location has shaped both its history and daily life, as the sheltered harbor provided access to Mediterranean trade while the surrounding mountains supplied water and agricultural land. Today, the city combines a busy coastal center with historic districts, archaeological landmarks, and nearby mountain landscapes.

Alanya has been shaped by several civilizations, with its strongest architectural imprint coming from the Seljuk period. Alanya Castle dominates the peninsula, while the Red Tower, or Kızıl Kule, stands beside the harbor and now houses an ethnographic museum. The historic Seljuk dockyard, known as Alanya Tersane, is another important reminder of the city's maritime role. Within the castle area are old walls, cisterns, religious buildings, and remnants of earlier settlements. Traditional Turkish food, local markets, and fishing remain part of the city's cultural landscape alongside its modern tourism industry.

Alanya Castle is the city's principal landmark, with defensive walls extending across the peninsula and viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean. Cleopatra Beach stretches along the western side of the castle, while Damlataş Cave lies directly behind the beach and contains stalactites and stalagmites. East of the city, Dim Cave is set on the slopes above the Dim River valley, where forested hills and flowing water contrast with the dry coastal terrain. The surrounding Taurus Mountains provide additional walking routes and rural landscapes, while boat trips from the harbor explore the cliffs, caves, and coastline around the peninsula.

Alanya's cuisine reflects the wider Mediterranean traditions of Antalya Province, with citrus fruit, vegetables, seafood, olive oil, and locally produced herbs appearing frequently in meals. The region is particularly associated with oranges and other citrus crops, while trout from inland streams and mountain areas is also found on local menus. Traditional dishes from Antalya include piyaz, a bean salad often served with tahini-based dressing, as well as grilled meats and regional pastries. Alanya's distinctive setting comes from the close relationship between its medieval castle, working harbor, sandy beaches, caves, and the steep Taurus Mountains rising behind the city.

Istanbul
Istanbul
Istanbul is a city built on layers of empire. Spanning two continents, it was once the capital of three major empires: Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Visitors walking through the Sultanahmet district can witness this timeline firsthand, from the Roman-era Hippodrome to the Byzantine mosaics of Hagia Sophia, and the towering minarets of the Blue Mosque. At nearby Topkapi Palace, rooms still display the jeweled swords, ceremonial robes, and handwritten Qurans once used by Ottoman sultans.

Cappadocia
Cappadocia
The ancient region of Cappadocia lies in Central Anatolia, between the cities of Nevsehir, Kayseri and Nigde. Here, the traveler finds one of the most fantastic landscapes in the world. Wind and weather have eroded the soft volcanic rock with hundreds of strangely shaped pillars, cones and "fairy chimneys", often very tall, and in every shade from pink through yellow to russet browns.
